^the only problem I see with starting haunt earlier is that with the sun setting later in the night, you would not nearly get the full effect of the mazes, as your eyes are adjusted for the daylight
Haunt is a completely different experience if you go on the first or second weekend. On the first weekend it is so quiet, you are often the only group in a maze at a time. By the time it is painted and all the mechanical parts are checked, I can't imagine much of a difference between a new and used splash pad
^My experience from past years going the second weekend is that it is not necessary. A couple years ago on the second weekend I actually left early as I had been through everything by 10.
