2016 - Skyhawk and Flying Eagles

Postby coasterboy » 20 Aug 2015, 13:01

Today the park announced two new flying-themed flat rides for 2016.

Flying Eagles is a standard Larson Flying Scooters, while Skyhawk is a new flat ride to North America, but looks similar to the Gerstlauer Sky Fly from Nikelodeon Universe at Mall of America. No word on where in the park these rides will be located.

Also announced today at Season Pass deals for 2016

And to wrap up the announcements, two versions of the Souvenir Bottle for 2016

Another first of its kind ride for wonderland. I'm still not sure exactly how it's going to work but still could be fun. Hopefully they aren't removing any rides to put the new ones in. Anybody have predictions for the new ride locations?

So the season pass dining plan for 2016 only gets you one meal per visit but the platinum pass dining plan gets you 2. Interesting. I'm probably going to need a platinum pass anyway since cedar point is getting a new coaster and we aren't

Edit: I missed the part where it says first of its kind for north America. Thought it was the first of its kind in the world

It appears to be similar to the Gerstlauer Sky Fly from Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America except Canada's Wonderland says it will reach heights of up to 135 feet. So, I'm thinking this is a tower ride judging by the height and the artist's depiction of the ride.

I was able to experience Cedar Creek Flyers when I had visited Dorney Park back in June and it was a great ride so, I believe Flying Eagles will be a great addition to Canada's Wonderland. I'm glad to see that they're adding both a family ride and an intense thrill ride. It appears to me that they'll be adding it somewhere near Wonder Mountain, possibly near Windseeker or near Cookie Cafe just by looking at the artist's depiction of the ride. As for Flying Eagles, they may just add it anywhere in the park but, probably somewhere in Action Zone as that's where land is available. But, they may remove Kingswood Music Theatre for these two need rides and leave SkyRider's plot open for the next coaster which will probably be coming in 2017 at the earliest now. We'll just have to wait for more Splashworks additions unless they surprisingly announce new slides during the off season. Both of these rides look great and are rides I'd definitely ride especially after experiencing Slingshot and going upside down at 300 feet! 8)

Look at the spacing of the arms in the illustration, it looks closer to Götterflug at Belantis in Germany than to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shell Shock at Mall of America...

This looks really cool, although capacity might be an issue if it's not a pay per ride system.

Neither one is meant to be a high capacity ride. But, having two new rides will help overall.

Anyways, both will be great additions to a park that already has an outstanding collection of attractions.

Will these additions give us the world's best flat ride selection?

Flying eagles is more of a kids/ family ride right? So somewhere in kidzville or planet snoopy would make the most sense. Skyhawk may be the first thing to go in Skyriders old area. I don't think it would take up too much of that space so there would still be room for something else in the future. Like the station for the next coaster

Yup there's no denying we're becoming the king of flats. I'm still desparate for more coaster additions but I have to admit this thing looks pretty cool.

24 riders capacity... looks like it will be okay after all. Maybe more than 24. The site shows max height of 115ft but CW lists 135, so maybe theres a higher capacity version.

I am really hoping that's the case. The ride in Germany only has a capacity of 16 riders, and I still don't think 24 is quite enough. Also, if they do go with the 16 or 24 rider we may be seeing a very short cycle.

Aw yeah! We kept saying we needed something with inversions, right? ;) I wanted the SkyHawk from Cedar Point, or even the one from Marineland, but this will do nicely! :tease: I could see them being able to do a 32 person version of this at 135ft tall! Who else is happy we didn't just see a Disk'O coaster with the Eagles?

Oh, and I guess Flying Eagles will be good as a family attraction. I highly doubt we'll be allowed to 'snap' the cables on it, though. I also think they really missed out on naming/theming them Flying Blue Jays, or Blue Jay Flyers (not just because of the baseball team, but rather because they are very appealing Canadian birds).

EDIT: SkyHawk has been confirmed to be going on the hill behind Slingshot, across from WindSeeker by Dave Phillips, head of marketing at the park. Also, no ride removals for either new ride. What does that put us up to now?

I have to say I am usually unsatisfiable when it comes to flat announcements. But I am pretty excited for this one.
