I just called the park and asked. Gentleman on the other end explained they'd finished up working on it last night, and things are good to go.

Hey Iain, very, very awesome news!!

However, what do you think the status with the very back seat will be??

I know Cedar Fair is WAY overboard when it comes to safety (they're the type who would install airbags on a bicycle!! :bash: ), but I'm REALLY hoping the last row will be open now as I'm not completely buying that lame excuse prior to the breakdown until I see the back row open again!!

But thanks a lot for the great news!

I got a reply to the email I sent the park concerning the status of Behemoth tomorrow and as Duck has already stated they said that they expect Behemoth to be up and running by tomorrow but can not guarantee it.

Duck wrote:Every coaster has an antirollback mechanism of some description; on Behemoth (and most chain-lifted coasters) there's a sawtooth shaped track running parallel to the chain (on Behemoth, it's just to the right of the chain). A similar shaped dog (pivoted catch) under the train rides up this track and is effectively a one-way clutch. The train can't come backward, because the dog engages each tooth and can pass over it only in the forward direction.

The chain dog is a similar (but not identical) shape - it contours to the roller guides on the chain - and permits the train to over-run the chain at the crest of the lift.

Of interest; B+M are the only company I've ever seen actually put cushioning elements on the antirollback rail. If you look at each segment of the rack as you go up the lift, you'll see it's permitted to slide longitudinally and there are large diameter urethane cushions that would absorb the energy of the train coming backward one notch (so the halt is a lot more gentle than an abrupt impact, as you'd get on other rides).

I shall be up at the park tomorrow if anyone is interested in meeting up and riding Behemoth and talking about coasters. More than likely I will not be getting to the park till around 1pm. I will be wearing a dark green long sleeved shirt, black blue jays hat and blue jeans. Just look for me in the Behemoth area.

So frustrated! Everyone bailed out to go with me today... Was hoping to get in a couple rides with a short wait... Oh well, will just have to wait for another weekday over the next week or two.

By the way, ever wondered what that "Clack-Clack" noise is when you're being towed up a hill on a roller coaster? That's the anti-rollback device.

I will be hitting up CW sometime this weekend, possibly Monday depending on what is happening in and around town.

I may be going next week with a few friends. it's funny to hear them act like they can take it, but they have no idea how high 230 feet is on a roller coaster, especially not standing beside it. I can't wait to see their faces at the top of the lift. What really gives you an idea of how high up you are is when you look down on Minebuster's turn before the drop.
