Hirschend were the ones planning on RMCing the Predator. When they walked away from the park (they were only the contracted operators), those plans went out the window.

...with a site plan for the new attraction that would replace another ride, the UFO.
I'm not sure if this is true as of yet, but I thought Darien Lake was restoring the UFO because as we all know, it is a very rare ride and we're fortunate to have one in our own backyard at Canada's Wonderland. Or did those plans go "out the window" as well when Herschend walked away from the park? If that's the case, then it's a shame that another Huss classic is going to the scrap yard. :( There needs to be a Classic Huss rides preservation society or something when amusement parks no longer want these rides. Maybe Six Flags should buy Darien Lake back again if they are beginning to have similar ideas. Anyways, we'll have to wait and see what happens to some of the rides at Darien Lake. 8)

The loop doesn't move the needle at all for me, but I've never tried a water slide of this type and it looks fun to me... I was on the fence about going to Darien Lake this year, but now I think I'll make the time for a trip...

Darien Lake - Darien Center, NY

Post by CoasterGeek64 » 08 May 2015, 20:30

My dad decided to take me and my sister to Darien Lake for Season Passholder Sneak Peek today ,which was a huge bonus for me as I got to skip school 8) . I also managed to take some pictures, but unfortunately I can't post them here since the file sizes are too big. My apologies for the inconvenience.

The park was pretty quiet and only a small amount of rides were running, and certain areas of the park were sectioned off (probably because everyone's still in school). It was also blazingly hot, which really took a toll on me later on in the day. When we got into the park, we were given free souvenir cups as well as lanyards for our season passes, which I thought was pretty neat. Brain Drain was still under construction, but Rolling Thunder was up and running today. I was reluctant to go on it, but my sister was a different story as she was one of the first people to ride it.

I went on Viper twice as it was the only roller coaster operating. In fact, the park was so dead, I went on it all by myself. My dad and my sister did Shipwreck Falls a few times while I went around the areas of the park that weren't sectioned off to take pictures of the scenery (I'm working on a recreation of Darien Lake in Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, and I needed a lot of references since I want to get all the details right).

I thought about going on Rolling Thunder later on, but the problem was that I drank a little too much Coke and my stomach didn't have time to settle in between rides. Couple that with the searing heat and I started to feel a little nauseous after a few hours. We left around 1:30 ish and did some shopping in Niagara Falls, since the park was only open 'till 2:00. It wasn't really exciting, but I did manage to film the opening ceremony for Rolling Thunder. I'm still debating as to whether I should upload it to YouTube, since it contains a few copyrighted songs playing in the background (and if I know YouTube, they're probably gonna send the copyright * to flag the video shortly after it's uploaded).

One thing that I found out while looking at the map was that they have this new thing called "Dive-In Movies". There wasn't too much information on the map, but from what I can extrapolate, you'll be able to watch movies from the wave pool in an inner tube. Seems like an interesting concept.

Well, that's pretty much it. I know it probably doesn't seem like a lot, but to be honest, I wasn't expecting much. It's funny when you think about it; Canada's Wonderland (from what I've read) was absolutely busy during SPPN, and yet Darien Lake was the complete polar opposite. I know there's probably a few reasons as to why that is, but it's still interesting to think about. I kinda wish there was more to do though.

Oh, well. At leat I got a Hershey's bar!

Darien Lake - Darien Center, NY

Post by canadaswonderlandguy » 01 Aug 2015, 14:48

So this happened the other day. http://wivb.com/2015/07/30/drive-in-scr ... rien-lake/
DARIEN CENTER, N.Y. (WIVB) — Three Darien Lake park-goers suffered minor injuries when a large drive-in movie screen tumbled into the amusement park’s wave pool.

Only hours before the screen fell, a crew installed it at the same location screens have been installed in the past for drive-in movie nights at the park. Darien Lake officials say they were able to make a quick response, with medical personnel treating minor injuries soon afterwards, and crews removing and fixing the screen.

The wave pool reopened an hour later, and the next drive-in movie night featuring “Finding Nemo” will continue as planned on Friday night.

An internal investigation is continuing into the incident.

What a coincidence!

Drive-in movie screens about to show Finding Nemo, then fall into wave pool.

Along with the addition of Ripcurl Racer to Splashtown as Canadaswonderlandguy had mentioned above, Darien Lake has also received a new train for the Ride of Steel coaster. 8)

Here is a video of Darien Lake's General Manager and Operations Director taking a plunge on the all-new Ripcurl Racer. It looks like a very fun mat-racing water slide! 8)
